Writing Tip Wednesday: A curated short list of FREE book promotion sites

Today I’m going to share with you a curated list of sites where you can promote your book for FREE. With the advent of self-publishing, a TON of service providers have popped up seeking to sell you all kinds of promotion services for your fiction and nonfiction books. These services include book tweets, blog tours, reviews (never pay for reviews, by the way!), eBook delivery to new readers, etc.

In addition to these paid services (some of which are certainly worth your time and money), a bunch of sites also do free promotion. Below you’ll find a short list of sites where you can list and promote your books for FREE.

Indie Book Lounge

On Indie Book Lounge, you can create an author account and list all your books. Readers can then peruse their favorite genres and find your books and buy links. This service is totally free.

Register for an author account here and start listing! If you note your book as a “bargain” book (i.e. under $1), then Indie Book Lounge will list your books on its sister site http://dollarebookclub.com/.

Indies Unlimited

This site hosts Thrifty Thursday, when you can list your eBook bargains and freebies for free, with all your buy links.

This site also hosts a Print Book Party Once a month, authors can list their print books priced at $15 and under, and readers can find a large selection of inexpensive paperbacks in one convenient place. Subscribe to Indies Unlimited here to get notified about these upcoming FREE promotions!

Lastly, Indies Unlimited also accept guest post submissions! Query them here first. This is a great way to get your name out there!

Love Kissed Book Bargains

As the name of this site suggests, it’s for romance reads. This site sends out a monthly email advertising newly released romance novels. To include your new release in this free email blast, submit your book info here. They have other reasonably priced promotions, such as email list builders, so check them out!

Thisiswriting.com

This site boasts free courses such as a course on Amazon Ads and a course on Book Marketing.

Authors are able to submit a form for free book promotion services. At the time of this writing, a note on the website indicates

“We are currently reworking a website to better help authors. We’ve temporarily shut down our free promotion services.”

For now, take advantage of this site’s free courses and bookmark it to check later for free promotions!

alternative-read.com

This site offers tons of great promotion services, some of which are paid and some free. First, site hostess @Sassy_Brit will tweet your book info if you follow her on Twitter and use #AltRead. Check out that free service here.

@Sassy_Brit also offers a free Sunday spotlight promo for all authors, including indies! See that info here and submit the book promotion form here!

She will also feature your book trailer for free; submit that info here.

As if all that weren’t enough, she’s also got some fun features such as What’s on your Desk Wednesday, where authors submit photos and descriptions of the (sometimes weird) stuff on their writing desks!

Fresh Fiction

Similar to Indie Book Lounge, you can list your entire backlist of books on Fresh Fiction here. You will need to fill out one of these forms for each of your books. You can also include a book excerpt.

Fresh Fiction also publishes book reviews and accepts unsolicited review requests. Submit your book for review by Fresh Fiction by following these steps.

Most importantly, Fresh Fiction also hosts the Fresh Fiction box, a book subscription service. You can submit your book for consideration for the box here.

Remember, it takes time and effort to promote your book as a self-published author. As romance and paranormal fiction author Karen Marie Moning has said, being in the right place at the right time is a product of being in many places at many different times.

Now you have a few services to get you started! Let me know how they go for you at maria@lawschoolheretic.com.
