Positive Parenting Friday: Parenting Tips for October 2020 Mercury Retrograde

Talking Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio!!

This week astrologer and parenting expert Dominique Jaramillo and I talked about how to parent during the upcoming October 2020 Mercury retrograde in the sign of Scorpio. This is a potentially powerful transit for many. This particular Mercury retrograde combines the logic and detachment of Mercury with the subconscious, secretive feelings of Scorpio, allowing us to step back and consider whether our lives are fulfilling. In doing so, we consider whether we need to let go of anything that is no longer consistent with our soul needs.

During a Mercury retrograde, younger kids tend to be fussier than usual and have more problems getting to sleep. Older kids may be more defiant and irritable. If your kids are being more defiant than usual, my advice is NOT to be more authoritarian, but to instead step back, remain calm, and ask your kids what is bothering them. Let them exert their independence, let them talk, and let them have their say (always civilly and respectfully!). You would be surprised at how your parent-child relationship improves when you show up, listen without judgment, and let your kids speak their minds.

This transit will direct the logical thought process inward. Your older kids may also have questions for you about heavier subjects, even subjects such as death and the afterlife. Answer the best you can, in an age-appropriate way, always without judgment.
